Der Schwarm
These 'naked-eye' 3D visuals were created for promotional adverts for the ZDF series 'Der Schwarm', penned by Frank Schätzing. The project's highlight was the dramatic portrayal of a whale bursting through a water tank's side, leading to a shattering of glass and a explosive gush of water. These visuals were showcased on numerous large outdoor screens across Germany, including prominent locations like Stachus in Munich and the Hamburg train station.

I chose to render the project with Arnold CPU in Houdini directly. This which worked out much better than bringing all the assets over to Maya, which is what I had previously done. The whales were animated in Cinema 4D and all assets were comped in Nuke.
The boys at styleframe.de did wonderful animation work in Cinema 4D. They also completed additonal simulation work in Houdini, and took care of all the AE social media assets. Luis Schottenhammel was undertaking a work placement at my studio during this project - he did fantastic work on the Houdini simulations. Special thanks to Mirco@Namoto & Robin@Styleframe.
